Long Beach, CA (STL.News)  On Saturday, August 15, 2020, at approximately 8:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lei Drive and Polynesian Drive regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Officers arrived on-scene as Long Beach Fire personnel were also on-scene, treating a 1-year-old male juvenile resident of Long Beach who had been run over by a vehicle.  The juvenile was immediately transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Long Beach Police Investigating Murder at 700 Block Of Cerritos Avenue

Long Beach, CA (STL.News)  On August 4, 2020, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Cerritos Avenue regarding a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult laying in the alley with gunshot wounds to his upper torso.  Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and began life saving measures.  The victim was later determined deceased at the scene. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a male adult pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Long Beach, CA (STL.News) officers were dispatched to Orange Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard regarding a hit and run traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist that resulted in the death of the male adult bicyclist. Upon arrival, officers located the bicyclist laying in the southbound bicycle lane of Orange Avenue, north of Del Amo Boulevard.  Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and performed life saving measures, however the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Long Beach, CA (STL.News) On July 23, 2020 at approximately 10:40 pm, Long Beach Police Officers responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.  When they arrived on scene they located a male adult laying in the eastbound lanes of Anaheim Street just west of Magnolia Avenue.  None of the vehicles involved were still on scene when officers arrived. Long Beach, CA (STL.News)  On July 15, 2020 at approximately 12:25 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the area of 37th Street and Cherry Avenue regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision that resulted in the death of a male adult. Upon officer’s arrival, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were on scene treating a male adult who was seated in the driver’s seat of a white 2001 Honda Accord.  The vehicle had major front-end damage and was stopped on the east sidewalk of Cherry Avenue, north of 37th Street.  Officers also located a male adult (pedestrian) lying on the sidewalk, south of the Honda’s location, who was determined deceased by LBFD personnel. Long Beach, CA (STL.News) On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m, officers responded to the area of Willow Street and Delta Avenue regarding a hit and run traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, that resulted in the death of the pedestrian. Braulio Chavarin Murdered in 400 Block Of Adair Street Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (STL.News)  On June 30, 2020, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Adair Street regarding a shooting that resulted in the death of a male adult. Upon arrival, officers located the victim laying near the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso.  Long Beach Fire personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 33 year-old Braulio Chavarin of Long Beach. Detectives believe the suspect fled on foot toward Linden Avenue immediately after the shooting.  The reason for the shooting is currently unknown. Gilbert Crawley Arrested In June 28 Murder Investigation by LBPD

Long Beach, CA (STL.News) On June 29, 2020, at approximately 4:35 p.m., detectives from the Long Beach Police Department located and arrested 48-year-old Gilbert Crawley from Spokane (WA), during a traffic stop in the 6700 block of Atlantic Avenue. In response to the violent nature of the June 28, 2020 incident, detectives pursued evidence throughout the night leading to the arrest. Evidence has revealed Crawley and Harris were known to one another and walking side-by-side on Orange Avenue when Crawley opened fire on Harris.  The exact motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Long Beach, CA (STL.News) On June 23, 2020, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Almond Court to a shooting, that resulted in the death of two adults. The calling party claimed a suspect broke into his residence and he open gunfire.  Once on scene, officers located a male adult suspect, identified as Sergio Pacheco, a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach, inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Long Beach, CA (STL.News)Today, the Long Beach Police Department issued a special order suspending the use of the carotid restraint outlined in our use of force policy. The Police Department already prohibits the use of “choke holds,” which restrict air flow, as a neck restraint to overcome resistance under any circumstances, and has never allowed neck restraint using knees, legs or feet.  Effective immediately, the Department is updating its use of force policy language to expressly prohibit all types of “choke holds” and is also immediately suspending the use of the carotid restraint, which restricts blood flow, as an authorized restraint hold.  As part of this policy update, the department will gather, review, and evaluate regional data and science associated with the use of the caroti...
