Washington Governor Inslee: Plan of Vaccine Distribution & Administration

Olympia, WA (STL.News) Gov. Included in the plan is the Washington State Vaccine Command and Coordination Center, a new statewide public-private partnership to boost vaccine distribution efforts.  The collaboration includes Washington corporations, labor unions, health care groups and government entities. “This is a massive effort, and as noble as any cause will be in 2021: Because this is the year we choose to get vaccinated, Washington,” Inslee said duri...

Washington Governor Inslee statement on continued ballot counting

Olympia, WA (STL.News) Gov. Jay Inslee issued a statement today as the country waits for votes to be counted. “There was always a possibility we wouldn’t know who would win the presidency on election night.  More Americans this year have voted early and by mail than ever before due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Those votes were legal, duly-cast and must be counted, even if it takes some time. “Local election officials across Washington worked tirelessly to ensure this was a secure election and that every legal vote was counted – and there has been no information to suggest otherwise in our state or nationally. “States control elections, not the federal government.  We know that counting continues until every ballot is tallied.  This is how elections have always worked and the process must ...

Rest area crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation kept working in the field as essential workers during the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order.  They also increased the frequency of their cleaning to help ke...

"Efforts by nefarious actors to meddle in our elections are unfortunately not new in this country.  Fortunately, Washington state has a strong system in place to secure voters' information. "The Secretary of State's Office has informed me that there is no indication voters' information has been compromised.  If you receive a threatening communication, report it to your county or state elections officers, but rest assured your right to vote and your right to privacy are both protected in our state's elections systems.  You can even go online to track the status of your ballot after you mail it or place it in a dro...

Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson issued a statement on today’s oral arguments in Washington’s multistate lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s attempts to roll back the Clean Power Plan and replace it with the “Affordable Clean Energy” rule, which does not require significant carbon emission reductions.  The Trump administration finalized this rule in July 2019. The oral arguments were heard today at 6:30 a.m. in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. “Washington state is fighting this disgraceful rule mere weeks after catastrophic smoke and fires, fueled by climate change, choked our lungs and burned entire...

Washington Governor Inslee: on Trump comments downplaying dangers of COVID-19

Olympia, WA (STL.News) Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement on President Trump’s tweet downplaying the threat of COVID-19. “The president’s reckless comments reflect exactly the same nonsense thinking behind his failed pandemic response that increased the risk of COVID, a virus that has caused 210,000 deaths in the United States already — and hundreds more each day.  He hasn’t learned a thing.  Since he tested positive for COVID, more than 2,000 additional Americans have died and downplaying this danger is the best he can do? “His only statement now should be an acknowledgement that COVID is dangerous; that he was wrong when discouraging the use of masks and wrong to mock the experts.  He certainly should not be telling people there isn’t anything to worry about. “It is easy for him to ...

Washington Governor Inslee: Boeing Company move 787 production to South Carolina

Olympia, WA (STL.News) Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement today on the Boeing Company's decision to move all 787 Dreamliner production to South Carolina. “Washington state remains the best place in the world to build airplanes.  Boeing's success as a company is a credit to the workers and taxpayers of Washington state.  Today's announcement is an insult to the hardworking aerospace employees who build 787s. "I recently asked Boeing's leadership what the company needs to keep 787 production in Washington state.  In all our conversations, they never asked for anything.  I understand the serious market forces Boeing faces today.  What I don't understand is why the company can't commit to restoring production here when the market for this plane improves. "This news falls hardest on the mo...

Washington Gov. Inslee on the Climate Crisis: ‘We Cannot Give in to Defeat and Pessimism’

Olympia, WA (STL.News) Washington State Governor Jay Inslee This story is part of Covering Climate Now, a global journalism collaboration strengthening coverage of the climate story. Climate Week this year coincides with clear skies in Washington state for the first time in almost two weeks. In just a few days in early September, Washington state saw enough acres burned – more than 600,000 – to reach our second-worst fire season on record.  Our worst fire season came only five years ago.  Wildfires aren’t new to the west, but their scope and danger today is unlike anything firefighters have seen.  People up and down the West Coast – young and old, in rural areas and in cities – were choking on smoke for days on end, trapped in their homes. Fires like these are becoming the norm, not the...

"I’ve been told the Pierce County Sheriff is close to completing the investigation his agency is doing on behalf of the city.  That report will be forwarded to the county prosecutor, who makes the decision whether to charge the officers involved.  We have no reason to doubt the work underway, and my decision does not in any way pre-judge an outcome, but the family of Mr. Ellis, the City of Tacoma and every Washington resident deserves the confidence that an extra level o...

The guard was activated by a letter from the governor to Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty, commander of the Washington National Guard, as demonstrations were underway in Seattle protesting the death of George Floyd in Minnesota earlier this week. Washington Governor Jay Inslee statement on EPA guidance that restricts states’ ability to protect clean water

Olympia, WA (STL.News) - Washington State Governor Jay Inslee released a statement Friday following guidance from the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that drastically narrows the scope and timelines for states' certifications for water quality permits under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act. “This new guidance, written without consultation with states and tribal communities, is the latest step in an unprecedented assault from the Trump Administration on the right of states to protect their waters and communities. “Our state is currently reviewing the implications, but it is clear the Clean Water Act is now under direct and sustained attack by the federal government.  We will not allow this or any president to illegally constrain our ability to protect Washingtonians’ right...
