Federal Prison is operated by the Bureau of Prisons and the US Department of Justice.

The federal prison tag is used when a federal agency sentences a person to prison and they will serve time in a federal prison.  State prisons and federal prisons are different.  The BOP, or Bureau of Prisons, operates federal prisons under the US Department of Justice.
