Atlanta Federal Reserve Appoints Birmingham Branch Board

BIRMINGHAM, AL (STL.News) The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta announces the appointment of two new members to the Birmingham Branch board of directors to serve three-year terms beginning January 1, 2021, and ending December 31, 2023. Maye Head Frei was appointed by the Board of Governors.  She is board chair of Ram Tool Construction Supply Company in Birmingham.  From 1997 to 2017, Frei was vice chair of administration at the family-owned business, which is one of the largest suppliers to commercial construction markets in the United States.  She is a graduate of Yale University. Larry D. Thornton Sr. was appointed by the Atlanta board of directors.  He is president and CEO of Thornton Enterprises in Birmingham, a McDonald's franchisee with seven restaurants in the Birmingham area.  ...

Birmingham, AL (STL.News) The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.  The homicide occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2020.  The deceased victim has been identified as Christopher Shawn Vance, (29), B/M of Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 1:20 a.m., officers from the the West Precinct responded to 1515 20th Place Ensley on reports of a person with a gun.  Upon arrival officers discovered the subject inside the apartment at the front door unresponsive.  The subject suffered from a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Birmingham, AL (STL.News) The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.  The homicide occurred on Sunday August 30, 2020. The deceased victim has been identified as Christopher Ryan Fletcher, (30), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.  At approximately 8:05 p.m. officers from West Precinct responded to the 3900 block of Todd Ave on reports of a person down. Officers arrived to find the victim lying in the roadway unresponsive. Birmingham, AL (STL.News) The Birmingham Police Department reports an additional arrest has been made in connection to the homicide of Raven Swain.  Swain was murdered on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Underwood Park located in the 1100 block of 26th Street South. The suspect has been identified as Demarcus Chandler, (24), B/M, State of Alabama Correctional Facility. The investigation suggest Chandler was in the custody of the West Jefferson Correctional Facility at the time he hired the defendant Solomon Minatee III to murder Raven Swain for pecuniary gain or other valuable consideration pursuant to a contract. Birmingham, AL (STL.News)  The Birmingham Police Department reports BPD’s Vice & Narcotics Unit conducted Operation Safe during the weekend of August 22, 2020.  This operation focused on investigating complaints within all four precincts.  Operation safe yielded the recovery of 4 firearms, 28 grams of marijuana, 14 grams of synthetic marijuana, and 0.5 grams of methamphetamine. Birmingham, AL (STL.News) Birmingham Police Department detectives within the Robbery Division have received a sudden spike in reports involving social media websites. Several robberies have been reported over the last two months involving social media.  During most of the cases, the victims are under the impression that they are meeting another person to “hang out.” Once they arrive to the meet up location; however, they are robbed at gunpoint by an unidentified person(s) who force the victims to send them money through CashApp or PayPal.
