45 states offer state lottery games in addition to D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands

State lotteries are regulated by each individual state.  However, many states do offer joint games with surrounding states.

There are 45 states that operate a state lottery in addition to D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Americans spend an astonishing, estimated, $77B (2018) playing lotteries and it is increasing every year.

While there is no national lottery, there are two lottery games that are offered in almost every state, Megal Millions and Powerball.

Powerball is operated by the Multi-State Lottery Association.
